Dribblers from the Public Attorney’s Office PAO survived searing rallies of the tournament host Oro Aces to win the championship of the Boy Jabines Cup of the Oro Association of Concerned Enthusiasts in Sports (Oro Aces) at the Pilgrim Christian College Gym last Sunday.

The Defenders banked on even scoring from its starting crew in the first half to lead the Aces 34-20.

In the third quarter, the Aces blasted with a 10-0 run behind back-to-back treys from Christian Rosete and four from close range from Bong Gorospe to close the gap 34-30.

The Defenders relied on its big men to spoil the Aces run, with a stab from the low post by Benjamin Dingal to start their own 10-0 run behind Dingal’s two and four each from Matex Canen and Monchet Collera to finish the quarter 44-34.

It the final quarter, Defenders protected its lead until point guard Rans Achacoso dropped two treys to tie the game at 52, with only 37 seconds left.

Defender’s coach lawyer Kit Llego called his final time out to plot their next play. In the return play, Dingal was fouled as he drived to the hoop and sank both free throws with 27 ticks to go.

With enough time to execute an equalizer th Aces failed behind the solid defense of lawyer John Salva.

Digal was again fouled from down low and was two for two from the line to cap the Defender’s win 56-52 seven seconds left in the game.

Matex Canen lead the Defenders with 19 poinys, followed by Dingal’s 14. For the losing cause of the Oro Aces, Christian Rosete scored 16, while Achacoso followed with 14. (pr)
