Manning as the executive director of this commission, Mr. Eligio Ildefonso has certified that Gingoog has been exemplary in tri-focal management, namely:  segregation at source, segregated collection, and operationalization of Material Recovery Facilities (MRF).

In an interview, officer in-charge of city’s Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) Marlene Fuentes has confided, “that this honor is the challenge being left to them by the late chief Richard Miraflores.  His leadership in implementing the “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act” remains as our daily’s mission to sustain for Gingoognons’ health and city’s sanitation”.

“Our city has been benchmarked, visited and studied as to its successful implementation of Republic Act 9001.  We are honored and proud as other LGUs have come to us and get some tips for their solid waste management endeavors.  This is our successful undertaking to share, our best practice to impart and our way of life to showcase as we have disciplined ourselves in segregating our waste disposals.  DENR’s recognition has re-posted the name of our city as the Cleanest and Greenest City in Northern Mindanao.  Besides, such validation echoes the city’s remarkable fame as a model in the fight against solid wastes throughout the archipelago.  We have to sustain this kind of best practice that definitely yields best results for our Gingoog and for everyone”, exclaims the lady chief executive.

“As of press time, the city manageably collects 6.6 tons of its daily’s garbage which is away from a horrible record of 24 tons per day five years ago.  Further, Gingoog maintains a controlled dump site which will be converted later on into a sanitary landfill”, expresses Ms. Fuentes.
