Mayor Joseph Peñas, presiding the CDRRMC 3rd quarter meeting asked the support of the council for the release of P500 thousand after explaining the rationale of his proposal.

Jake Uy, the city treasurer moved to allocate P300 thousand for Marawi City, while budget officer Al Gealon sponsored the resolution to earmark P200 thousand for the earthquake victims of Surigao City. Both motions were unanimously approved by the council members.

“We have been helping our neighboring cities when man-made and natural disasters occurred in the past. We have to help Marawi since they suffered a lot in the ongoing war. Besides, Mayor Gandamra is a friend. We also need to send financial assistance to the earthquake victims in Surigao. It’s better to help than becoming a victim,” Peñas said.

The mayor said he will personally handover the cash assistance to the mayor of Marawi. “We have to wait for the proper time. That is, when the war is over,” he said.
