Iligan City — December 8 is a non-working holiday.

In a message sent to this paper by the Philippine Information Agency, Lanao Norte yesterday, this is a special non-working holiday in the country after President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law the Republic Act which recognizes Mary as the “Patroness of the Philippines.”

Dec. 8, to note is also marked as “Immaculate Concepcion Day” by Roman Catholics.

Many places in the country hold fiestas in this day to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. (nora soriño)
