JASAAN, Misamis Oriental — A grade four teacher of Aplaya Elementary School was shot at close range in Cabulawan National, Barangay Solana here by a still unidentified gunman Thursday afternoon.

Authorities identified the victim as Virginia Cabigas, 48, and a resident of Barangay Solana.

Police said the victim sustained three gunshot wounds from a caliber .45 pistol and was immediately rushed to the Jasaan Community Hospital to receive medical attention. Cabigas was later transferred to Northern Mindanao Medical Center in Cagayan de Oro for further medical treatment.

Cabigas, authorities said, is in stable condition.

Police recovered at the crime scene three empty cartridges of a caliber .45 pistol.

Cabigas was shot on her left shoulder, lower jaw, and left side of her face.

In a follow-up investigation, police disclosed the victim came from Barangay Aplaya, this municipality riding a passenger multicab. Upon reaching the national highway of Cabulawan, Barangay Solana the multicab stopped, the masked suspect on foot approached and shot the victim multiple times before fleeing in a parked motorcycle, driven by another masked man who served as the gunman’s back-up and hurriedly drove away towards Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
