Authorities said the fire broke out at around 12:30 am at a house owned by Wilbert Sismundo, and quickly spread.

Cagayan de Oro district fire chief Rommel Villafuerte said initial investigation showed the fire originated from the second floor of the house.

“We are still establishing the cause,” he said.

Sismundo said there was a problem with the main electrical line.

“Tinuod na siya nga sa amo nagsugod ang kalayo pero gikan to siya sa linya sa kuryente nga nagsila-sila. Before misulod ang kalayo gikan kadto sa poste sa Cepalco,” he said.

FO1 Imelda Baraza said the fire resulted in injuries to Wilbert and Arlene Sismundo, Remar Caralde, Tanya Halasan, and Alfonso Panal.

Authorities said 19 houses, mostly made of highly combustible materials, were destroyed by the fire. They placed the structural damages at P1.5 million. (lito rulona and nitz arancon)
