BAGUMBAYAN, Sultan Kudarat—A barangay in Kapaya town was hit by a flash flood last June 1, report reached this paper recently.

Kapaya Barangay Chairman Nanilo Ganzon said water suddenly rise from Kapaya Creek and this was accompanied by debris from bamboo and trees and after few days constituents from Sitio Nakan heard a roaring sounds that made them awoke and and found that water already submerge the vast 53 hectares of agri-lands planted with palay and the discovery of a dead body of a horse and a carabao that were traced having brought by flashflood emanating from “Monu River” situated in the hinter portion of Daguma Mountain Ranges just adjacent in the area mentioned.

It was learned that the flashflood that hits the same part of his barangay was no longer new as last 2007; it had even claimed one(1) innocent lives of a minor but reiterated that such was not from his barangay.

Ganzon had further revealed that it was last June 01, 2015 when the sudden rise of water from Kapaya Creek was felt accompanied by debris from abamboo, gimmelaena and other trees hiwever after a few more days more had come and as accordingly reported by hi constituents from Sitio Nakan where they had felt and heard a “roaring sound” and made them awoke as accordingly water had now submerged the vast 53 hectares of agri-land planted with palay and the discovery of a dead body of a horse and a carabao that was traced to had been brought by a flashflood emanating from “Monu River” situated in the hinter portion of Daguma Mountain Ranges just adjacent in the area mentioned.

Due to the incident, heavy equipments were sent in the area for clearing as it was observed the box culvert situated at Sitio Nakan had been blocked by huge volume of debris brought by flood waters. “Alam po ninyo umabot ang taas ng tubig hanggang sa mga kabahayan sa barangay at maging ang aming barangay hall ay hindi rin napatawad at mainam na lamang sa tugon ng pamunuan ni Gobernor Teng at ni Madam Carmen” Ganzon said.

Ms. Arlene Chio, of the PGO, revealed that the provincial government has presently evaluating the extent of damaged of the flashflood and accordingly the office concern had been busy preparing to ease the situation of those affected by the flasflood in the area.
