A GROUP that is drumming up support here for a Duterte presidential bid yesterday claimed that seasoned politicians that include former President Fidel Ramos and former Senate President  Aquilino Pimentel Jr. have continued to prod the Davao mayor to seek the country’s top post next year.

Raffy Abrogar, a former regional director of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), claimed Ramos, Pimentel, former mayor Reuben Canoy, and former Cebu governor Emilio Osmeña, among others, were supporting calls for Davao mayor Rodrigo Duterte to run for president.

He said the elderly politicians were also one with Duterte in pushing for a shift to a federal form of government.

It was time, he said, that the country changed its form of government to federal, pointing out that the US and other federal governments were better off.

Abrogar, who is one of the organizers of the “Duterte for President Movement” in the city, said his group has started tapping various sectors and mobilizing support for a likely Duterte presidential campaign. He said they were focusing on  drivers and operators of public vehicles, religious and  youth  groups, among others.

Abrogar said this as Duterte came over to stand as one of the principal sponsors of a wedding  at Xavier Estate in Upper  Balulang.

Abrogar said a Duterte presidential campaign would be an opportunity for federalists to push their agenda for a change in the country’s form of government. He also said his group was convinced that the Davao mayor has a vision and capability which none of the present set of “presidentiables” can match.
