Gingoog City — The Gingoog Sports Arena here has allegedly been operating its cockpit without the necessary documents and permit. However, the owner has been paying its obligations to the City Treasurer’s Office since 2014.

City Administrator Tita Garrido confirmed it recently. She said the sports arena in the city operated a fighting cock arena without the mayor’s permit since it opened.

A source from the Sangguniang Panlungsod here also confirmed that the owner of the arena had failed to secure their resolution franchise to operate a gaming cockpit from the city council.

But the owner of the arena has been actively paying their obligation annually including regulatory fees and amusement tax of every cockfighting, Edna Sanchez, head of the city’s tax collection said.

Ancio Felisan, City Planning Officer here said the owner of Gingoog Sports Arena is a certain Jerez Mercado, a brother of city councilor Jerome Mercado.
