IN a brief press conference held at the office of the city council secretary a few days ago, Councilor Candy Darimbang read a prepared written statement enumerating and describing the circumstances that would become the basis for her petition for a recount of the votes in the first district of Cagayan de Oro City. In fact, it was already filed before the HRET (House of Representative Electoral Tribunal) hours before the press conference.

Her spokesman Atty. Oscar Musni waved to members of the media Comelec documents (election tally sheets) purportedly pregnant with discrepancies.

It was a brief press conference in a sense that Musni told us beforehand that there won’t be any questions and answers. However, he told members of media that they are free to make their own impression and interpretation, whatever.

Prior to election, people were talking about an impending victory for Darimbang. This was bolstered by report that her opponent had entered into an alliance with another candidate from the second district to strengthen his chance. But it’s all water under the bridge now. Let HRET decides.

I remember an article written years ago about the number of religious sects in the country that run to more than two thousand, stressing a point thereby that “the Catholic Church remains as divisive as ever.”

What we have today are members of the Church who attacked Duterte during the election period, and even before he could sit as President after winning the election. And yet, some are silent on what is already and continue to happen today. Cagayan de Oro is one good example. They attack one candidate but silent on the immorality of another.

Why not just give Duterte a chance to prove his worth? And if indeed he becomes a monster, then I will join you against him with the same vigor when I supported him.

Mind you, those stories are not old stories. They are still happening today. And I will stand by my words.

Better late than never, and I support the campaign by Hapsay against commemorative plates or by whatever name.

There was already a circular to that effect. The implementation has not been strict that it has been abused not only by locals but also by foreigners who claim to have close relations with the NBI, CIDG, PNP, etc. Fraternities are no better.

Another circular came out reiterating the old one. And now, everybody is warning everyone about it, including Hapsay.

When I was still active with CDO-CRCD (Cagayan de Oro Campaigners for Road Courtesy and Discipline), I prepared photocopies of the previous circular for use during operation. I did not apprehend, I just served the warning and asked motorists to remove them. One person I encountered was Atty. Musni. He was very polite to say, “Sorry, Bro. I will remove them when I get home.” Did you, Brother?

Today, some are using DU30 plates. Certainly, these are not commemorative plates but more of a fad. It is wrong. Please remove these plates to avoid unnecessary embarrassment.
