COUNCILOR George Goking, chair of the city council’s committee on ways and means, pointed out that consumers should be consulted on the proposed imposition of ecological services and protection fees.

The lawmaker aired this proposal after the city council committees on environment and natural resources and on ways and means jointly conducted a public hearing regarding the collection of PES.

The public hearing was attended by barangay chairmen and representatives of different government agencies.

Goking said the public should be consulted, not only the barangay officials. This is necessary so that consumers, both residential and commercial, can air their opinions and concerns on the proposed PES collection.

The proposed PES is P0.25 centavos per cubic meter for residential consumers and P0.50 centavos for commercial consumers. (sp)
