MARAWI City–There is a raging, deadly war between the snipers from the military and the Isis-inspired Maute Group amid the rubble of buildings destroyed by the month-long fighting here.

Army and Marine snipers run between the ruined buildings and collapsed structures, always on the lookout for the Maute snipers who appeared to have mastered the art of urban warfare.

An Army sniper said they have to “look at every bullet hole in the buildings.”

He added: “Are the holes man-made? Is there a sniper hiding behind these holes?”

Among the latest victims of the Maute snipers is Marine Sgt. Brian Tamboon who was shot while running with fellow Marines amid the ruins of downtown Marawi.

Army and Marine snipers are also having a field day eliminating reckless Maute snipers.

One Army sniper said he shot and presumably killed a sniper who was riding a motorcycle in one of Marawi’s empty streets.

“He just fell from the bike and stayed on the ground,” he narrated.
