ILIGAN City — Reeling from the soaring prices of basic commodities, fuel and other petroleum products, another public transport group in the region is pushing for an increase in public jeepney fares.

The Coalition of Lanao Utility Transport for Change (Clutch) filed a resolution before the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board for a fare increase in the city and Lanao del Norte.

Clutch is only one of public transport groups in northern Mindanao to seek an increase in fares.

The group has sought a P4.50-increase in the minimum jeepney fares or from P7.50 to P12.

Raul Permites, Clutch president, said their member operators and drivers of public utility transportation can barely eke a living with the soaring prices of petroleum and basic commodities.

Permites cited the effects of the Duterte administration’s Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (Train) Law.

He said only people with high income can benefit from the Train Law while the same has been a burden to the poor.

The LTFRB has yet to act on the Clutch petition.
