WHILE doing my grocery at Shopwise on Tuesday, my wife sent this message: “Brownout balay.” Just the other day, there was also a two-hour blackout. I thought it was what Gold Star Daily’s story “Blackouts are back” was about. I waited until 6:30 pm when the traffic flow was expected to be relatively smooth. After that, I went home.

We ran out of candles but we had a few rechargeable flashlights that gave light while we had our supper while being inconvenienced by the heat. I was looking at 7 pm when hopefully, the lights would be back. There was none until 8 pm and I was beginning to worry of the more than three kilos of meat I just bought. The past began to recollect when the newly bought meat in my refrigerator were spoiled due to long blackout that, out of anger, I brought and threw them in front of the Cepalco office. OMG, it’s not happening again!

At 9 pm, I was already a bit pissed off. I called up a friend for updates. His reply: “Naka-preventive shutdown ang Steag, 105 mw less na sa grid, walay diesel ang WMPC, another 100mw plus Agus 7 repair, another 100mw+.300mw jud ang kulang karon sa Mindanao Grid.”

Gee, this is really something. But then, another speculation is that the long blackouts are caused by what they call “union work slowdown” in order to get what they want under CBA. Isn’t it what we call as “sabotage”? I hope it isn’t true! (But then again, Gold Star Daily reported yesterday that Cepalco and the labor union have already reached an agreement.)

All gizmos are running out of juice. Soon, there won’t be light from flashlights and cellphones. All black as in black. The threatening rain at least gave us cold wind to cool our heads.

I decided to go out and get some candles. It was past 10 pm and I thought, we better get to bed and forget the world. At 30 minutes past midnight, the lights were back. I checked the meat, they’re okay. I turned on the air conditioner and had a good sleep until 7 am. Seven and a half hours of blackout, that was indeed quite a night!
So, who’s playing with our lives? Stop it, please!

This just came in from “Pipi” whom I presume to be Felipe Velez Abrogar.

He says, “Chada kau imo topic. Dapat maka learn nata mga Pinoy not to spend more than what we earn. Mga ana pud unta nga topic once in a while. Ako helpers ako man gatambagan.” Thank you, Epi! Sad to say, Pinoys are hooked on cellphones, and a good size of their incomes go to this.

What took ex-mayor Tinnex Jaraula so long to tell his story on Scantel? But that’s immaterial now. It is common knowledge that that project, considering all the circumstances, was anomalous.

If COA has asked the people involved in it to return the money, then they should or face the consequence.

The past administration loved to flaunt its strong connections––they thought they can get away with anything, forgetting that there would always be a come-uppance.

This should also be a fair warning to the current administration.
