The fruit-bearing tree seedlings included cacao; coconuts; jackfruit; mango; lanzones; mangosteen; durian, marang, rambutan; and santol as well as 10 sacks of organic fertilizer.

Uy also gave giant bamboo, rubber and assorted vegetable seeds as well as 150 heads of chicken to be grown by the residents of Barangay Pange.

Uy told the Philippines News Agency he envisioned to give 100 seedlings and five chickens to every household in Barangay Pange to encourage them to engage in backyard farming to boost the income of the family.

Uy said his office has prioritized the Barangay Pange since it is the poorest among the 22 barangays in Siayan, a second class town with 34,989 population.

Seventy percent of the population in Barangay Pange are Subanens, who rely in farming as their means of livelihood. pna
