Egay Uy .

ON Aug. 31, 2018, at almost eight o’clock in the evening, I purchased a merchandize from Gaisano City along Recto Avenue. The price of the item was P150. I pulled my wallet and gave the cashier what I thought was a P100-bill and one P50-peso bill.  The bills were folded neat and crispy.

After that, I waited for the item to be handed to me in the usual wrapper but the cashier handed back to me one P100-bill saying, “Sobra imong gihatag, sir.  Naipit ang usa ka one hundred.”

I thanked the cashier and requested to take a photo of her identification card.  She was at first reluctant for a reason I cannot surmise, but her checker co-employee told her to just let me take a photograph.  After I did, I told her I will name her as an example of honesty.

The identification card, I did not notice at that time, was actually the Health Certificate of the employee.  The name indicated in the certificate was Lilebeth T. Tenio.

To Ms. Tenio, keep up the good work. Gaisano City management should be proud to have an employee like you.  I know there are many of your kind in that establishment.  Kudos for your honesty.

If Gaisano has an honest employee, Oro Gadgets Inc. in Graphics All-in Store at Vicente Roa street has one who has a long tolerance for hot heads. In the first week of September, I went to the store to have my Samsung J7 Pro checked because the screen showed traces of discoloration after it slipped off my hand.

I was armed with a certification from my service provider that the unit was still covered by the usual one-year warranty.  After the employee checked the unit and after I told her what happened, she said the unit could not be covered by the warranty because of “broken LCD.”  Actually, the LCD was not broken but as analysed by somebody else, the LCD was merely detached from the body of the phone causing the alien colors to appear.

My voice reached its highest pitch when the employee, Ms. Margie Sabillo, painstakingly told the lawyer in me that the phone could not be covered by warranty. The calm and smiling employee made my voice return to its normal range as I told her, “Dili ta ka mabasol kay kasunod ka lang sa palisiya ninyo.”

Then I left to go to the other Samsung warranty service center where my phone was repaired sans costs.
