The victim was identified as Luwalhati Yap, 46, of Dumaguete City, and manager of Guerdene del Sole, a furniture shop.

Yap was stabbed to the left part of the torso and neck.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) theorized that Yap was hit struck with a hard object on the head before she was stabbed to death.

PO3 Leonilo Laquio of the Carmen police, identified the suspect as Glover Mark Gomez, 25, of Zone 3, Barangay Kauswagan, a guard from a security agency called Cherubim.

Initial investigation disclosed that Gomez, who was on duty that night, was nowhere to be found when the Kauswagan police responded, and found Yap sprawled and bathed in her own blood inside the establishment.

“Based on the logbook, he was seen by employees before the incident took place. Duty siya unya iyang gi-abandon niya iyang post,” Laquio said.

Police said the suspect also left the place where he lives, and took his belongings with him.

Investigators said the suspect was relatively new as a guard of the establishment.

Laquio also said invesigators also found out that Gomez had a motive, and that he and Yap had a spat.

“Sige daw kasapnan sa manager nga matulog sa iyang post. Sige gakaeprimand unya masuko ang security guard,” Laquio said.

Police ruled out the possibility of a robbery, saying everything that Yap had with her at that time were intact.

They said they were also searching for the murder weapon, and had requested copies of the security camera recordings.
