“I FORMALLY turned over P2.4 billion, and the people should watch over it.”

With this, former city treasurer Glenn Bañez yesterday hinted that everything was not well between him and Mayor Oscar Moreno.

Bañez said this after simple turnover rites at the City Treasurer’s Office which he headed since 2013. He formally turned over the financial records of city hall to his successor Ramon Antonio Mendoza.

Pressed to elaborate what he said, Bañez replied, “You can read between the lines.”

But Bañez said he would issue a formal statement about his “resignation” soon or possibly, by next week.

Asked if he would report back to the Quezon city hall, Bañez said he cannot immediately do that unless there is a request from the local government (of Quezon City).

“Wala namang request ang Quezon City. ’Yun lang,” he said. “Sayang. ’Yun lang. Basta I will issue my statement, maybe next week.”

Bañez smiled but was teary eyed when he was asked to comment about city hall’s statement that he was “loaned” to Cagayan de Oro in 2013 and that he requested the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) to assign him back to his “mother unit,” Quezon city hall.
