Committee chairman and Acting Vice Mayor Samuel Huertas said only 183 PWDs were in the list of the City Social Services and Development when he assumed the chairmanship in 2013.

He explained that upon his assumption, he immediately mobilized his committee staff to go from barangay to barangay and from house to house to identify and locate the families with PWD members.

He said he encouraged everyone to register in his office to avail of needed interventions.

The registration for PWDs in the city is still going on, he said.

During his term 42 wheelchairs, one quadro cane and one walker were given to PWDs in need, he told reporters.

He also informed that six persons were fitted with prosthetic legs and are now walking normally.

Alrey Toringm, a Grade 4 student who was given a prosthetic leg last September, was seen riding on his skateboard on the tiled floor of the City Plaza, during the celebration,  Huertas gladly told the crowd.

He also revealed that eight PWDs are now undergoing skills training at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

Finally, he said in the forthcoming budget preparations for Fiscal Year 2019, he is going to ask the mayor to allocate funds for transportation of more PWDs who would undergo skills training at Tesda.
