Iligan-Lanao bishop dies

ILIGAN City–The Roman Catholic bishop of this city and Lanao del Norte, the Most Rev. Elenito Galido, passed away on Tuesday night. He was 64.

Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz, a Catholic priest currently “on leave,” said Galido died of liver cancer at 10:11 pm.

Galido had been bed-ridden for months, and had been under intensive care in a hospital shortly before his death.

Vera Cruz said that days before Galido’s death, they were able to talk. He said Galido could only whisper.

The wake is at St. Michael Cathedral, this city, where he served as the bishop. The ecclesiastical jurisdiction covers not only this city but the whole of  Lanao del Norte. (nora sorino)
