YES, I’m back in circulation and no, I will not share on My Wit’s End my harrowing experience when I ran for barangay councilor in the recently concluded elections.
Instead, I’d like to discuss the rants of Mr. Perfecto Yasay who has been “noisy” on social media again(?) He has been gabbing about the ouster of erstwhile Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
I know everybody has the right to express their two cents on the quo warranto petition against Sereno. However, this has to shed light on the issue and not muddle it further. It should not offer to sell a lie just to please their principal.
Yasay has joined the bandwagon of the Turd Reich by selling the fallacious analogy of what happened to CJ Renato Corona and Sereno.
What happened to the two justices are very different.
Corona was found guilty by the Senate of violating Article II of the Articles of Impeachment filed against him for failing to disclose his statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth to the public (SALN). More importantly, he admitted to having $2.4 million undisclosed foreign deposits.
Meanwhile, Sereno was ousted from the Supreme Court via a quo warranto petition for failing to show her SALN she filed eons ago. Let me be clear. Sereno’s SALN couldn’t be located. It could have been misplaced. It does not automatically mean she did not file for that particular year as the Office of the Solicitor General has been itching about.
Yasay posted: “… but the vilest instance of judicial interference was when PNoy bribed Congress with DAP fund to oust Chief Justice Corona and yet the yellows extold [sic] him.”
Let that sink in for awhile because at first glance, this statement sounds plausible.
He posts that Sereno should not delve into partisan politics.
“The CJ heads the Supreme Court and in that sense (symbolizes) Lady Justice who is depicted as blindfolded while holding the scales of justice on one hand and a double-edged sword on the other,” Yasay posts publicly on his social media account.
That’s the travesty, Sir. Now, she can be impartial. The associate “injustices” just booted her out of the institution she used to serve with eyes blindfolded. In a way, sila and nagtanggal ng piring sa kanya. And more importantly, why should you care? You’re an American citizen. Rant about your President Trump and make America great again.
