VILLANUEVA Mayor Julio Uy and Rep. Peter Unabia of Misamis Oriental’s 1st District yesterday agreed on their common candidates in the province but left the slot for vice governor open following Balingasag Mayor Alexis Quina’s decision to run for vice mayor in his town.

Another one for provincial board member in the 1st District was also left open as a “strategy,” said Unabia, chairman of the administration Liberal Party (LP) in Misamis Oriental.

Uy, the leader of the National Unity Party (NUP) in the province, said he would pursue his bid for the province’s top post but the LP-NUP coalition has yet to decide on his running mate.

Uy said the coalition was going over a list of five potential candidates for vice governor who may either come from Tagoloan town or Gingoog City.

Mayor Quina, who earlier said he would run for vice governor, said there was a change in his plans and he opted to be the running mate of Balingasag’s vice mayor Marieta Abogado. Quina said he has also agreed to be the LP-NUP spokesman for the province.

Unabia said he would seek a third and final office term as representative of the province’s 1st District. Uy’s wife Juliette would seek reelection as 2nd District representative.

Unabia announced the LP-NUP candidates for the provincial board in the 1st District: provincial board members Vincent Pelaez and Virgilia Dumadag, Lagonglong Mayor Jubert Pamesa, and Eric Khu. One slot remained vacant.

For the 2nd District: board member Borris Oliver Actub, Tagoloan councilor Armando Pomar, Recto Achas, Ramil Carreon, and former governor Homobono Adaza’s son Erwin.

The LP-NUP candidates are scheduled to file their certificates of candidacy on Thursday afternoon.
