Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III today congratulated Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Lucky 7 winner Maymay Entrata of Cagayan de Oro City, saying her “stunning victory mirrored the hopes and aspirations of our youth, especially those in the countryside.”

Pimentel said the 19-year old reality show champion, who brought tears and laughter to millions of her new-found fans in the country and abroad, proved that poverty is not a hindrance to attain fame and fortune as she bested a group that included celebrities and regular housemates.

“Maymay is a role model who will serve as a source of pride and inspiration for our young people aspiring to enter the world of entertainment,” said Pimentel, noting that the comedian grew up without a father and lost her beloved grandfather while she was inside the PBB house.

He said it was Maymay’s simple virtues, appearance and demeanor and tenacity that endeared her to the viewers and even her fellow housemates as she garnered every point and passed a string of tests that brought out the best during her formative journey inside the PBB house.

“She was compelling and fun and boisterous and excitable,” he said of Maymay, who also became a guiding sister to her younger housemates in the longest PBB season that ran for 34 weeks in three countries, including Vietnam and Hongkong.

Maymay obtained 42.71 percent of the total text votes during the final Big Night at the jampacked Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna to take home the P1 million top prize, a house and lot and an Asian tour package. (pr)
