Since his first term as Governor of Misamis Oriental, Governor Yevgeny “Bambi” Emano has spearheaded the tourism development of the province. With a clear vision to develop the province of Misamis Oriental into a premiere destination for all, the past 6 years of Kuyamis Festival is testimony that the growth has been in leaps and bounds.

This year, the provincial tourism officer, Atty. Jeffrey Caudor Saclot, introduces new events and changes for the week long festivity which gives the Misamisnons and the people of Cagayan de Oro a chance to see the grand celebration. For the first time in its 6 year history, the Kuyamis festival features the 1st Gov. Bambi Emano horse show competition and Cowboy night which is held at the municipality of Tagoloan.

Kuyamis which is a variety of sweet coconut is a proud product of the province. The provincial Capitol building is surrounded by booths from the different municipalities which are crafted from materials from the coconut tree, and are highlighting the Kuyamis produce of the province. Each booth has a distinct design which best represents their respective municipality and were judged during the opening day (January 7, 2019). Local food products, crafts and history of their place can be seen in the booths and are quite “instagramable” for the youth.

Highlighting the event is also the 20 lovely candidates who are competing for the Miss Kuyamis crown. With the pageant night set tonight (January 10) at the Tagoloan dome on 7pm, it will be a star studded night which will be judged by no less than amazing personalities.

Gracing the event to judge it will be Asia’s next top model cycle 5 grand winner – Maureen Wroblewitz, Miss Supranational 2013 – Mutya Johanna Datul, Manhunt International Philippines 2016 – Don Mcgyver Cochico, Eat Bulaga’s That’s My Bae Grand Winner – Kenneth Earl Medrano and resident judge, Carousel Productions vice president and Mutya ng Pilipinas World 1977 – Peachy Veneracion.

The province is also proud to showcase on January 11 at 7am, the 2019 Kuyamis Street Dancing competition. The event starts at the capitol grounds and ends at the Pelaez Sports Center.  And to finally award the stakeholders and the people behind the festivities, the Governor’s night is going to be held at Limketkai Luxe Hotel on Friday (January 11).

It is often said that empires aren’t built in one day. I believe it is true for the Governor and the province of Misamis Oriental. It took years of dedication, hard work and promotions to reach this certain level of success for the province. Teamwork which was the main point of the speech of Department of Tourism Region 10 Regional Director May Unchuan, has always played a part in identifying, establishing and sustaining tourism destinations, products and more.

This is without a doubt, both history in the making and legacy for the province of Misamis Oriental.
