The city local government on Friday has been sought to help the fire victims of San Isidro Labrador, Brgy. Lapasan who are now getting sick in a temporary shelter at East City Central School, this city.

This came about after the Kristohanong Katilingban sa Pagpakabana of Xavier University, headed by Nestor Banuag, looked over the condition of the victims.

Banuag said that the children and elderly are the ones mostly affected with common sickness, predominantly cough. He stressed the need for the city government to immediately take action to help them.

Also, the fire victims have raised apprehension over their difficulty in getting drinking water.

Marivic Ducos, one of the victims, complained that they can barely afford buying potable water considering the misfortune they are into.

“We have brought this problem to the attention of the city social welfare department but until now they have not yet produced any result,” said Ducos.

Meanwhile, Barangay Lapasan Councilor Bebot Poquita vowed to verify the problem so that they can take proper action.

“This matter was not brought to our attention by the affected families,” explained Poquita.

He added that the Barangay Council is now looking for a relocation site for the victims.

The fire happened last May 20 and its damage was pegged at P5 million. According to the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD), a total of 123 families or 1,028 persons were displaced by the fire that persisted for nearly three hours.
