Police identified the suspect as former PO1 Zamaxary Usman, 45, who last served as an officer in Lanao del Sur. Officials said he was dismissed from the police service for serious neglect of duty effective Feb. 9 this year, specifically, for failing to follow an order for him to report for work at the Maguindanao Provincial Police Office.

Usman was arrested together with 52-year old Peter Fabro who allegedly served as the former policeman’s “runner.”

The two suspects are residents of Camella Homes in Barangay Balulang.

Police said the suspects, who were arrested during a buy-and-bust operation at around 7:30 pm Wednesday, would be charged with illegal possession and sale of prohibited drugs. The suspects are detained at the Bulua police station at presstime.

SPO3 Jude Fuentes said Usman was under surveillance for several weeks, and his arrest came after a police agent posed as a buyer and was handed a sachet of suspected shabu at Camella Homes in Balulang.

After the alleged tracsaction, members of the Bulua police and the City Intelligence Unit pounced on the two suspects and seized a marked money of P500 and nine other sachets of suspected shabu, cellphone, IDs and P300 in cash.

“Based on our initial information, a policeman is the source of illegal drugs in Barangay Balulang. We did not know who it was [until Usman’s arrest],” Fuentes said.
