ILIGAN City – The Lady Fearless Team of Libertad, Misamis Oriental won the Championship of the First Foton Motors Philippines Women’s Volleyball Challenge held last May 18-20 at the MSU-IIT Gym here and brought home the Cash Prize of P30 thousand last weekend.

According to Vernie Padilla Overall Chairman of the Games the other prizes were won by: Iligan Medical Center College (ICMC) – First Runner Up – P20 Thousand, Iligan City National High School Spartans (ICNHS) – Second Runner Up – P15 Thousand and Cagayan de Oro All Stars – Third Runner Up – P10 Thousand.

He also added that The Most Valuable Player Award of P2 Thousand was won by Chrislyn Uy of the Lady Fearless Team.

The prize of P1 Thousand each went to: Best Open Hitter – Chamberlaine A. Cunada of the Lady Fearless Team, 2nd Best Open Hitter – Anwarlyn Mohammad of Iligan City National High School, Best Opposite Hitter – Queenie C. Romevi – Lady Fearless Team, 2nd Best Opposite Hitter – Angelie L. Compledo Lady Fearless Team, Best Middle Blocker – Sarah Ridad – Iligan Medical Center, 2nd Best Middle Blocker – Jubileea Cabingas – Lady Fearless Team, Best Setter – Princess Ramisi – Lady Fearless Team and Best Libero – Coleen Grace Tipdas – Iligan Medical Center.

Eight teams from Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Ozamis City and Oroquieta City in Misamis Occidental competed in the event.

Alvin Lu, Vice President for Business Development of Foton Motor Philippines during the Opening Ceremonies told newsmen that their Company President is a sports enthusiast who believes that they should share the blessings from above to the youth by training young women in the field of Volleyball.

He added that they held the First Foton Motor Philippines Volleyball Challenge in Mindanao to be able to find potential players from the island who could be trained for national and overseas competitions.

He also said that their company sought the assistance and partnership of the Office of Congressman Frederick W. Siao of the Lone District of Iligan since they do not have an organization that could do the organizing and search for participating teams in Mindanao.

Siao, on the other hand, said that he readily helped Foton Motors Philippines because sports development is also his advocacy.

He reminded the audience and the players from Iligan that he had long been involved in sports before he became a politician.

He recalled that he was appointed City Sports Director during the first term of former Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz.
