The students claimed their prize during the flag raising ceremonies at city hall yesterday morning which was handed by City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office Chief Engr. Armen Cuenca.

Liceo de Cagayan University topped the concept designs submitted by architecture and engineering students of Xavier University, University of Science and Technology in Southern Philippines, and Cagayan de Oro College-Phinma. The teams with designs that did not win still received P10 thousand as the consolation prize.

Cuenca said they launched the contest this August with the aim of having the best Eco Park concept design which would be built in the old city dumpsite in Upper Dagong, Zayas, Barangay Carmen, this city.

He added that Mayor Oscar Moreno plans to build the Eco Park at the old city dumpsite area after the completion of the new sanitary landfill in Barangay Pagalungan as part of the city administration’s strict compliance to the Solid Waste Management Law (Republic Act 9003)

However, City Administrator Teodoro Sabuga-a, Jr. clarified that the concept designs of XU, USTP, and COC will still be used for the final design of the Eco Park.

Ang ilang mga maayong design sa Liceo, Xavier, COC, ug USTP ato kanang tipo-on  aron mas patsada pa gyud ang atong paghimog Eco Park sa atong da-an nga dumpsite,” Sabuga-a said.

Sabuga-a added that an area for senior citizens has been included in the concept design of the park.

“Hopefully, 20 years from now, senior citizen na man kita nianang panahona, didto na dayon kita magpahayahay sa maanindot nga Eco Park diha sa da-ang basur-ahan,” said Sabuga-a.
