Lightning strikes farmer in Agusan del Norte

BUTUAN City– A 27-year-old farmer died upon arrival at a local hospital after he was struck by a lightning during a thunderstorm following a heavy downpour at a municipality of Agusan del Norte Sunday past noon.

Reports from Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office reaching the regional headquarters here on Monday, identified the fatality as a certain Joylito H. Mondano, a resident of Purok 4, Poblacion Remedios T. Romualdez, in Agusan del Norte.

The police report said that Mondano was at an open rice field during the thunderstorm after a heavy rain in Purok 1, Brgy. Panaytayon, at the said town, 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

It added that the victim, together with a certain Adonar B. Batukan were traversing the rice paddies when a series of lightning struck the area.
