OPERATORS of lottery outlets in the city and Misamis Oriental have asked Councilor Romeo Calizo to help them put an end to illegal gambling operations here.

Calizo said some 321 organized lotto outlet operators met with him to complain about the rampant illegal Suertres bettings taking place in the city.

The councilor, who chairs the city council’s committee on police, fire and public safety, said the police should start doing something to stop illegal gambling activities in the city’s 80 barangays.

Calizo proposed the creation of a special task force to monitor and act against the proliferation of illegal gambling activities.

The illegal gambling activities in the city also include “video karera,” “tulilong” and even poker, he said.

Calizo said the illegal gambling activities already resulted in the closure of some 20 legitimate lottery outlets here, and a 50-percent drop in the income here of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. (lito rulona)
