“THE effective worker is one who makes the job, not made by the job.”

I have always adopted this principle in my professional life.  A job description or an outline of duties merely guides a worker the basics of the job but really “making the job” is entirely his call.  I have always admired employees who do that – instead of being made by the job, they make the job.

This kind of worker – from the lower to the higher rungs of the organization – is not difficult to spot.  They are the workers who get most sensitive assignments because they deliver results well and promptly.

Those who are made by the job sport the position titles but do not add value to the job itself.  They merely float and are lucky no untoward incidents happen on the job.  They flaunt their designations and position titles even as they do not deliver results.

Those who make the job make things happen. They explore areas beyond their outline of duties or job descriptions.  They assert the authority of their jobs or positions.  They take the extra mile and make the extra step.

Workers who are made by the job account for every extra minute they spend at work – short of claiming overtime pay for each of these limited minutes.  Worse, they disappear on Mondays and even onwards whenever they have spent extra days in official or even personal trips.

Workers who make the job do not mind their position titles.  They do not mind how they are referred to as workers.  Their main concern is to get their jobs done – and excellently.

Workers who make the job seem indefatigable.  But those who are made by the job appear to lack enthusiasm at getting things done.

These are what I have noticed in the Regulatory and Complaint Board and its Inspectorate Team which are composed of people who make job.  This year, the RCB is facing the challenge to deliver more results to surpass its 2018 accomplishments.

The team will all the more be facing greater challenges now that it has been officially reconstituted by Mayor Oscar S. Moreno through Executive Order No. 006-2019.

To the RCB team – let’s continue making the job.
