In a memorandum signed by Mindanao Generation (Mingen) President J. T. Corpuz declaring a full red alert on all NPC-MinGen Facilities, power plants and offices, NPC Nature’s Park including Maria Cristina Falls was closed last week for public viewing.

This action is necessitated to safeguard lives and government properties, the memo reads.

Accordingly, the closure of the said facilities shall continue until the declaration of a full red alert status shall be lifted.

Maria Cristina Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country and its waters run the turbines of Agus 6 and 7 Hydroelectric Plants of National Power Corporation now under Mingen.

In recent years, the premises between Agus 6 and 7 was developed into a Nature’s Park where wildlife both flora and fauna are found.

One of the main attractions is the mini-zoo that includes a small crocodile lagoon, a butterfly farm with various flowering plants and herbs.

The forest on both sides of the river is home for monkeys too tamed that they sometimes approach visitors for food.

These have attracted domestic and foreign tourists in the recent years making a visit to Iligan incomplete without a view of Maria Cristina Falls.
