THE days of police officiers in northern Mindanao who use or are addicted to illegal drugs are numbered. This as National Police Director General Ricardo Marquez ordered Camp Alagar to crack down on junkies in the police force or the so-called “adis-adis cops.”
Marquez, who inspected Camp Alagar on Friday, said the National Police was bent on kicking out officers who engage in substance abuse, especially those who have been tested positive for drugs on several occasions. “Talagang i-dismiss natin sila sa kanilang serbisyo. Ayaw natin na masira ang image ng PNP (Philippine National Police) organization nang dahil lamang sa kanila,” he said.
Marquez noted that some 36 police officers across northern Mindanao were found to be drug users in a recent random drug testing conducted by Camp Alagar.
He also said officers should lead by example instead of being involved in illegal activities, including the use and trafficking of illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, Marquez said he preferred that police officers be visible on the streets and their respective beats than just staying inside their offices and wait for complaints from civilians.
“Dapat meron talagang maraming police sa mga daan para mapakusog natin ang ating police visibility to prevent the commission (of) any crime,” he said. (nitz arancon)
