Personnel from the Standards Bureau of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) conducted a two-day accreditation assessment on the Misamis Orientalun children’s home, Bahay Pag-asa Center, in Sitio Daru Poblacion, Claveria Misamis Oriental.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) head Emelia Andea said the Bahay Pag-asa Center, the home of the children in conflict with the law, will be evaluated in its capability in handling and sustaining the needs of the distressed and unwanted children who are victims of various influences that resulted to their involvement in particular crimes.

“The Bahay Pag-asa Center is highly confident in passing the accreditation assessment because we are observing and embracing the policies and standards set by the DSWD Standards Bureau,” Andea said.

Present at the assessment are Bahay Pag-asa Center head Jhunleymar Abella, Houseparents-Jocelyn Lorejo, Bernadette Langala and Ailyn Mopos, DSWD personnel and the children in conflict with the law.

“This residential care service program helps the people concerned by providing the necessary course of action just to make these children restore their social functioning and become productive citizens of the society,” Andea added.

Andea said the capitol is allocating P1.2 million each year for the center, which is situated at more than a hectare land. It houses 12 children with ages 12 to 15 years old.

“That’s why no one would think of escaping. We don’t have a case of children escaping from the center because so far no one has complained of mistreatments and hunger. We engage them to the Alternative Learning System supervised by the Department of Education,” Andea said.

The institution started its operation in 2013, but only during the last quarter of the year was it able to serve the children in conflict with the law. (pio misor)
