ORGANIZED motorela owners and drivers yesterday called on Mayor Oscar Moreno to immediately sign the ordinance passed by the city council that increases the minimum motorela fare in the city by P1.

Sonny Hinosolango, convenor of Alyansa MP3, complained: “Nganong dili paman pirmahan ni Mayor Moreno ang resolution sa bag-ong fare hike nga Abril pa man kami nagpaabot niini? Mas mosamot na hinoon kamig kalisud ilabina kay naa pa gyuy oil-price hike.”

Alyansa MP3 is an alliance of 10 motorela drivers and owners’ groups in the city.

Hinosolango said their petition for a P1-increase in motorela fare or to P7, the first in 10 years, was approved by the city council as proposed by Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr. early this month.

He said the organization is disappointed because Moreno has not acted on it yet.

Lao, chairman of the city council’s committee on public utilities, said the rising costs of petroleum products and commodities was enough reason for the approval of the petition.

Under the newly approved ordinance, the new motorela rate is set at P7 for the regular fare, P5.50 for high school and college students, senior citizens and those with disabilities, and P4 for elementary graders.

The new ordinance imposes a P500-fine on drivers found guilty for overcharging.
