THE police already have in custody the man who allegedly stabbed a neighbor to death at around 5 am last Friday.
SPO3 Jerome Diolanto of Police Precinct No. 5, identified the victim as Edward Gonzales, 42, and a resident of District 1, Barangay Consolacion, this city.
A witness positively identified Rudy Alongay, 35, of the same place as the one who stabbed the victim several times.
Alongay, in an interview vehemently denied the allegations saying, he was at his auntie’s sari-sari store when the incident happened.
Diolante said the victim sustained four stab wounds in the body. The latter’s hands have also several cuts indicating that he tried to defend himself from the attack.
It was learned that prior to the incident the victim was with another five individuals including the suspect identified as Johnson Nicolay and the witness in a drinking session.
Nicolay said, after drinking he and Alongay accompanied Gonzales to his shanty which is just also beside the house of Alongay.
“Human namog pahigda kang Edward (victim) migawas na dayon ko. Natingala ko kay si Rudy (suspect) miadto sa ilang kusina nagkuha og kutsilyo. Nakita gyud nako misulod siya sa musketero ni Edward ug iyang gidunggab-dunggab,” Nikolay recalled.
He said Alongay did not notice him as the place he was standing was dimly lighted. He then saw Alongay hurriedly run away going to the other side of the road.
When the neighbors already noticed the body of the victim, it was even Alongay who volunteered to bring the victim to the hospital.
When responding policemen knew the details of the incident from the witness, they arrested Alongay at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center.
Alongay, who is now temporarily detained at Police precinct 5 mini-cell, said there was no reason why he would kill Gonzales.
He said he has no problem with the victim nor any personal grudge.
Diolanto said the suspect will be charged with murder as he killed the victim while sleeping.
