THE city council has adopted resolutions requesting Congress, the Department of Education and the Office of the President to consider raising the basic pay of public school teachers.
This, after Councilors Ian Mark Nacaya and Suzette Magtajas-Daba delivered their joint special report regarding the need to raise the basic salary of public school teachers.
Councilor Magtajas-Daba cited the reasons why teachers deserve such salary increase.
One is that they are all-around workers, “jack-of-all-trades” because they do everything due to lack of manpower. Sometimes a public school teacher becomes a guard, a doctor or a nurse, especially those who are assigned in rural areas, she said.
Another thing they do is they act as foster parents in school because most of the waking hours of our students are spent in school.
They are also paying for educational stuffs using their personal funds. In other words, they use their own money to provide visuals and other learning materials for their lectures and others just to improve the learning system of the students. (cli)
