The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said it would shut down a high-voltage equipment linked to transmission lines  and transformers at the Lugait substation in Misamis Oriental in order to facilitate the completion of projects at its Opol substation.

“This requires the shut down of the Lugait-Cagayan de Oro 69-kv and Lugait-Kiwalan 69-kv lines,” explained Elizabeth Ladaga, a NGCP spokesperson.

Ladaga said the shutdown would result in as much as 12 hours of blackout in certain areas.

The blackout is expected from 6 am to 6 pm tomorrow.

Ladaga said the shutdown would affect portions of the service and franchise areas of the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. (Cepalco) and the Misamis Oriental 1 Rural Electric Service Cooperative (Moresco 1) in western Misamis Oriental, including El Salvador City.

Ladaga however said the power supply may be restored earlier than scheduled if the NGCP project works are finished early.

“NGCP  will exert all efforts to restore power as scheduled,” she said.

Cepalco said it would make use of the situation to facilitate a cross-arm replacement along RN Pelaez Boulevard in Kauswagan.

Cepalco said it was informed that the NGCP would reconfigure a 138-kv Busbar protection system at its Lugait and Opol substations.

Cepalco however said the power interruption could last run for over 12 hours or from 6 am to 6:30 pm affecting the greater portion of Kauswagan, all of Barangay Bonbon and Bayabas.

A power switching would be implemented in major parts of Barangay Carmen, Balulang, city proper and all of Macanhan from 6 am to 7 am and again at 6 pm to 7 pm.

Cepalco however assured the public the power would be restored immediately after switching works by NGCP and Cepalco are completed earlier than scheduled.
