THE National Library of the Philippines (NLP) commended the City Government of Valencia for its strong implementation of its programs and campaign for library establishment.

The members of NLP conducted a library visit and ocular inspection in the city on August 10, 2016 to know the status of the City Library including the establishment of reading centers in the barangay.

Ms. Vida Dorea P. Mendoza, a Librarian of the Public Libraries Division, said that among reading centers in the country only Valencia City has the most barangay that affiliated to the National Library of the Philippines.

Out of 31 barangays in the city 27 were affiliated to NLB.

The city government, through the leadership of Mayor Azucena P. Huervas vows to continue improve the programs and projects of the City Library and assured to have well-established reading centers in the barangay.

“The establishment of reading centers in the barangay will serve as a big help for all children and students to learn more and promote reading habit,” said Huervas.

Ms. Aine Q. Mecisamente, City Librarian, also pledged to support the plans of the local chief executive and will continue to support the programs of NLP.

Moreover, the National Library of the Philippines promised to give electronic computers to the City Library to support its online informational resource service. Mayor Huervas will also donate reference books that include encyclopedias. ej montebon
