“Police officers are not allowed to use their mobile phones while on duty.”

This was Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) spokesman Supt. Mardy Hortillosa said during an interview in response to the complaints they have received.

He said, their office has been receiving complaints from concerned citizens regarding police on duty who have been found to be more busy tinkering their cell phones than actually looking at the surroundings of their post.

Gawas nga di maayo tan awon sa katilingban, delikado pa gyud na sa part sa police kay basin naay mga dautang tawo hag-as lang mo atake sa among police so di siya deretso maka respond,” Hortillosa said.

Hortillosa said, the erring cops would be facing sanctions and warnings when caught.

Newly-installed city Police Director Senior Insp. Nelson Aganon, said this is just one of the reforms he will implement to his police officers during his term.

Aganon, in his speech during the turn over ceremony earlier this month, declared that as part of internal cleansing, he is planning to reshuffle police station commanders after they will have been evaluated.

He also ordered the first shift changed from 8:00 am  to 5:00 am.

Aganon said police should already be on the street before the people.
