PADAYON Pilipino officials and members have yet to meet and decide on whether or not they would welcome back and field Misamis Oriental 1st District Rep. Peter Unabia as a candidate in next year’s elections, Mayor Rommel Maslog of Talisayan said on Thursday.

It’s going to be a long process before the party could arrive at a decision, said Maslog, chairman of the Padayon Pilipino for Talisayan.

He said the party’s leader, Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano, has yet to announce a decision, and the province’s chief executive cannot decide on the matter alone.

“Taas pa kana nga proseso ug dili sab basta-basta mag desisyon si Gov. Emano ana,” he said. “Ug gawas pa, dili pud na siya mag disisyon nga siya ra. Ipaagi gayod sa kadaghanan.”

Maslog’s pronouncements came after Gingoog Councilor Marlon Kho told the Gold Star Daily that an Emano-Unabia tandem in the 2019 elections is starting to take shape.

Unabia and Emano have yet to comment on Kho’s claim.

The Talisayan mayor and the congressman do not see eye to eye. In 2016, Unabia allegedly helped bankroll the mayoral bid of Rico Taray against Maslog in Talisayan.

Maslog said he would welcome the likelihood of Unabia mending ties with the Padayon Pilipino which he left when the congressman joined the Liberal Party during the Aquino administration. The congressman severed his ties with the LP and joined the PDP-Laban following the rise of Rodrigo Duterte to the presidency in 2016.

Maslog said he would abide and respect whatever decision the Padayon Pilipino and Emano would make.
