VICE President Jejomar Binay did not offer alternative solutions to problems confronting Mindanao but his own version of the State-of-the-Nation Address (Sona) on Monday supplied what was wanting in President’s report before Congress last week, Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano said yesterday.

Emano gave Binay a passing mark of “7” with 10 as the highest, a bit higher than the grade of “6” he gave Aquino’s June 27 Sona.

Emano said he only gave Binay a “7” because the vice president failed to say what government should be doing about the power crisis in Mindanao and other pressing concerns in the country’s second largest island.

“Wala man gihapon siya makahatag sa alternative solution sa Mindanao labi na sa power crisis,” said Emano. Emano said he did not see Binay’s version of the Sona as an attack on Aquino but as something that completed the July 27 Sona.

He said Aquino failed to tackle many important issues that Binay discussed on Monday afternoon in Cavite such as the Luneta hostage crisis, the Zamboanga siege, Yolanda tragedy, and the Mamasapano killings in January.

Vice Gov. Jose Mari Pelaez, meanwhile, lauded Binay for recognizing the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) members who were killed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, in January.

“I am happy about the recognition given by Binay to the SAF 44 whose heroism and senseless deaths were not even mentioned in the President’s Sona. How can his hair dresser be more important than the fallen SAF 44?” asked Pelaez.

He said Binay’s Sona version only showed the real situation in the country which Aquino did not disclose in his sixth and last Sona. (nitz arancon)
