Northern Mindanao bagged four awards in the 20th Gawad Kalasag Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Humanitarian Assistance.

Barangay 18 Child Development Center of Gingoog city named as Best Early Learning Center Urban Category; Chief Supt. Domingo Tambalo, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Special Recognition Heroic Act; Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School, Best Private Secondary School Category (finalist); and Ecosystems Work for Essential Benefits, Inc. for Best Civil Society Organization (finalist).

The awardees were recognized for their outstanding contribution to DRRM. They received cash prizes and plaques of recognition. The first place winners took home P300,000 while the finalist received P100,000, respectively.

Gawad Kalasag is the country’s premier annual awards for outstanding contribution in the fields of DRRM and humanitarian assistance. It is the principal mechanism by which the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council advances awareness of the best practices of DRRM and humanitarian response and action.

The award also aims to appreciate individuals, groups or institutions which have shown extraordinary courage, heroism, and sacrifice in times of emergency.

Expressing his gratitude, Punong Barangay Rogelio Pajaron said this magnifies the name of their barangay in the country. He reiterated their commitment to keep parents and children prepared for disasters. Also, they will plan out of what is best for their day care. (ocd x)
