More than a thousand members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) operatives from the different drug enforcement units all over Northern Mindanao were subjected to a surprise drug test late last week.

Police Regional Office-10 spokesman Supt. Surki Sereñas said the surprise drug test was conducted during the 1st Anti-Illegal Drugs Summit held last Friday at the PNP Regional Headquarters, Camp Vicente Alagar, Cagayan de Oro City.

“The surprise drug test is intended for our anti-illegal drugs operatives. Therefore, that personnel who usually lead the drug raids and other anti-illegal drugs operations are the ones getting tested,” Sereñas said.

He said they wanted to cleanse their own ranks especially those police officers engaged on anti-illegal drugs campaign in the region.

The conduct of surprised drug test was initiated by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the region who was also considered as the police counterpart on any anti-illegal drug operation in the region.

“Those police personnel found to have positive result would be subject for another test. Mas maayo gyud nga dunay proseso nga insakto kay kaso baya ilang atubangon kung makita nga positibo sila sa pag-gamit og druga,” he said.

Pro-10 Regional Intelligence Chief Supt. Rodolfo Hernandez said the surprised drug test in coordination with the PDEA-10 is part of the continuous campaign to cleanse their own rank of misfits and undesirables, particularly our anti-illegal drugs operative.

He said he could not deny that several police officers assigned in the region and even in the municipal level were suspected to have engaged in the illegal drug trade and they were charged criminally and administratively.

The activity was a gathering of PNP anti-illegal drug operatives from all over Northern Mindanao which was also an opportune time to conduct a surprise drug test.

“This will ensure that only those personnel whose service reputation is unsullied, those whose record is unblemished and those whose character are beyond suspicion remain in our special unit such as the Drug Enforcement Unit,” Pro-10 Regional Director, Chief Supt. Timoteo Pacleb said.
