NEW People’s Army rebels attacked again and burned three dump trucks of Del Monte  Philippines Inc. in Claveria town, Misamis Oriental.

Lt. Col. Francis Carandang, commander of the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion, said the trucks were transporting pineapple seedlings when some 20 communist rebels flagged down and then set the vehicles on fire at around 10:30 am in Barangay GE Pelaez in Claveria.

Carandang said the arson was committed by members of the NPA’s Guerrilla Front 4B Committee in northern Mindanao under one “Jun-jun Abao.”

He said the rebels huriiedly left the area towards the direction of Sitio Dugo-Dugo of the same barangay after burning the trucks.

Carandang said there were two fuel tankers that passed the same area earlier but rebels did not stop the vehicles.

After the incident, the military has advised Del Monte to move 13 of its trucks out of Barangay Tipolohon in Claveria as a precautionary measure.

Carandang said soldiers in Claveria have stepped up security measures, particularly in barangays Malagana and  Bulahan, and have started pursuit operations against the rebels.
