Police said PO1 Efren Castor of the Sta. Josefa, Agusan del Sur Municipal Police Station, has remained under intensive care at the regional hospital in Tagum City.

Authorities said Castor was serving a warrant of arrest against farmer Carmelito Davin on Friday in connection with a case for unlawful occupation or destruction of forest land when he was shot in Purok 7, Datu Ampo, Barangay Sayon, Sta Josefa town in Agusan del Sur.

Davin was charged in court for violation of Presidential Decree 705 as amended by Section 79 of RA 7176.

Davin allegedly resisted arrest and took Davin’s companion, one PO3 Mendez, as a hostage. Mendez however was freed following negotiations that involved members of the Sta. Josefa police, barangay officials, soldiers and militiamen.

Authorities have launched a manhunt against one “Aying Esteban,” Davin’s companion. Davin is now in the custody of Sta. Josefa police.
