ON water.

For the past several days, water in Patag has been back to normal, i.e., right pressure, right volume (meaning no air is pumped through our faucets), and right time.

Without delving deep into the bulk water contracts of the Cagayan de Oro Water District, we, consumers, are made happier by this kind of service delivered right into our homes.

For weeks, we have suffered from low-pressure-to-no-water, thanks to the reported repairs by Rio Verde of its water transmission pipes and to the breakdown of COWD’s booster pumps.

I will just cross my fingers for now hoping the relief we are experiencing will not only be temporary regardless of what will happen to the bulk water transactions of the water firm.

Thank you, COWD for this hopefully permanent relief.

On power.

Minergy Power Corporation Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mindanao Energy Systems Inc. (Minergy) is under fire for the reported pollution in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental where its 165-megawatt coal-fired power plant is located.

Power generated by this power generating firm is sold to the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co., a majority owner of Minergy which operates the once-controversial bunker-fired generating plants in Tablon, Cagayan de Oro.

This power supplier literally liberates our area’s distribution utility, Cepalco, from the clutches of what is left of the National Power Corporation’s generating facilities.  Ultimately, it liberates us consumers in the franchise area of Cepalco from power failures caused by shortage of power from Napocor or other interconnected independent power producers.

Time was when Minergy was vehemently opposed and criticized by the city council where I stood literally for hours to defend its existence and the benefits it then offered to the franchise area.

I can almost see a repeat of those days in the case of Minergy Power Corporation.

Good luck to whoever gets to explain before the public why there is a need for the allegedly pollutant power plant in Balingasag.
