The good news is, the city council has approved the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) chief Dr. Glenn Bañez request for extending the said deadline was approve by the city council and was extended to February 28, 2017.

Bañez claimed that he expects more business permit owners would again beat the deadline which is more than a month to settle all accounts registered under his office.

“This is whether micro or big businesses. We expect the entire registered business permits would renew their permit as soon as possible after another deadline was set and approved by the city

council,” he said.

He said based on his experience for the past three years as city treasurer officer in charge in Cagayan de Oro, they expect major delay but they will settle it during the first quarter of the year.

“Most cases they will renew their business permit during the extension period. Under the Local Government Code of 1991, the extension of deadline can be set until March of every year but the extension is primarily set until Feb. 28, 2017,” he said.

Bañez claimed that after the deadline, the CTO can always impose the 25 percent surcharges and 2 percent penalty against those who failed the deadline. The surcharge is based on the tax due.

“In every P1,000 dunay P250 surcharges while we also imposed another 2 percent on the surcharges and interest imposed. Surcharges and penalties also imposed on the regulatory fees like Mayor’s Permit Fee, Building Permit Fee, Garbage Fee, Billboard Fee, Health Certificate

Fee, Electrical Fees and Occupational Permit Fees,” he said.

He said among other reasons that majority of the business owners failed to pay before the January deadline is that they expect as practiced in the previous years and other administrations that extension would always be imposed.

“Base on my experience mao ra gyud kini ilang gihulatan kung dunay extension,” he added.

On Monday record compared last year renewal of business permits, it only falls under 3,700 more on the same period.

Bañez said as of Monday this year, more than 3,200 business permits were renewed through online but despite this new technology offered, majority of the business permits owners failed again during the deadline.

“Wala na gani sila miadto sa CTO but I have to admit our internet connections also failed to served properly. Ga-down atong connection unexpectedly mao nga daghan usab ang mapakyas sa pag-avail. We are simplifying our way now,” he added.
