Organized by the Movement Against Tyranny (MAT), militant groups joined as one, gathered at the Press Freedom Monument at the capitol grounds and then marched toward Magsaysay Park in Divisoria, at around 8 am.

By 11 am, the crowd grew to about a thousand people at the Magsaysay Park.

“Batukan ang diktadorya,” MAT leader Fr. Father Rolando Abejo of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente told the crowd.

Taking part in the demonstration were the groups Kabataan in northern  Mindanao, Bayan Muna, and other known militant organizations.

Fr. Abejo said many Filipinos have not forgotten the abuses committed during the Marcos dictatorship, following the declaration of Presidential  Decree 1072 on Sept. 21, 1972.

“No to martial law!” chanted Vennel Chenfoo,  the regional coordinator of Kabataan.

Chenfoo said the Marcos martial law excesses are taking place again especially in outlying villages in Mindanao as a result of the Mindanao martial law declared by President Duterte last year.
