Officials from the Cagayan de Oro City Fire District (COCFD) has issued a warning to the public against buying substandard Christmas lights and other electrical decorations in preparation for the coming Yuletide Season.

COCFD Executive Operation Officer SFO3 Sam Villarde announced, over a local radio station over the weekend, that buying cheaper substandard Christmas lights and other electrical decorations in various malls and markets is a common cause of fire every Yuletide season.

“We would like to remind the public to be extra careful this Christmas especially in buying Christmas lights that might turn out to be substandard. Pagnag-overheat na mao na dayun ang cause of fire,” he said.

Villarde added that sub-standard Christmas lights and decorations bares no approved standard from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

“Our fire safety inspectors are now on double time to check this substandard Christmas lights and decorations sold in the malls and markets. Kung mahimo amo dayun kining ipa-imbargohon uban sa taga-DTI,” he said. (Lito Rulona)
